The outsourcing
boom around the new high tech capital
of the world – Bangalore continues.
Centillium Communications, Inc.
(NASDAQ:CTLM), a leading provider
of broadband access solutions, is
broadening the scope of its research
and development (R&D) operations
in Bangalore, India. The world-class
R&D site serves as the company's
Center of Technical Excellence for
development of its complete, end-to-end
DSL, voice-over-IP (VoIP) and fiber-to-the-premises
(FTTP) system-on-chip (SoC) solutions
that enable "last mile"
delivery of leading-edge capabilities
-- including premium services such
as HDTV, video-on-demand, VoIP and
other applications -- to subscribers.
Centillium began its operations
in India in 2000 with a small technical
staff. Today, the company has 155
engineers, senior managers and consultants
working in a state-of-the-art facility
in Bangalore that is developing
some of the broadband access industry's
most exciting and innovative technologies.
The Centillium Bangalore team is
engaged in the full product development
cycle from architecture definition
to customer engagement. Centillium
is one of a few companies in India
that provides its engineers and
managers the unique opportunity
to gain an in-depth understanding
of industry-leading technologies,
get involved in all stages of developing
sophisticated SoC products, and
market them to the leading global
communications systems vendors.
"Today, our operations in Bangalore
are growing and represent a full
R&D infrastructure that is ready
to support Centillium's expanding
product portfolio and customer base,"
said Centillium CEO Faraj Aalaei,
during a recent visit to Bangalore.
"The R&D work being done
in India is a critical element in
our strategy to expand the scope
of our product offerings in the
DSL, VoIP and optical markets worldwide;
and each member of our Bangalore
staff is a significant contributor
to the development of Centillium's
flagship products for major customers
across the globe. We are very glad
to contribute to the training and
development of the next generation
of India's top technologists and
business leaders."
C.S. Mohan, vice president and general
manager, Centillium India Private
Limited, noted that the close personal
involvement of Centillium corporate
executives in Bangalore activities
has been a key factor in the company's
R&D success. "Our strong
working relationship with Centillium's
top executive management opens the
door to innovating products that
meet real-life customer needs,"
Mohan noted. "Bangalore is
involved in all stages of Centillium's
product development -- including
chip architecture, design, verification,
physical design, firmware and system
software development. This wide-ranging
R&D effort makes Centillium
one of the few U.S. companies in
India that involves its engineers
and managers in multiple aspects
of its operations from product development
to marketing and customer support."
